Goal Setting
I'm finding it easy to achieve goals which interest me. This may not seem like a great epiphany but it was a realisation for me that I'm going to need a whole lot more MOTIVATION.
This week I sat down and made a list of goals under these headings:
-Home
-Relationships
-Family
-Work
-Finances
-Health and Fitness
-Leisure and Recreation
I made sure each goal was a SMART goal. Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic and Timed. I wrote them down on a piece of paper and filed it away in a nice looking clearfile. Ask me what my work goal was... Yeah um.. Not quite sure.
Ask me what my leisure goal was... Build my vege garden. Well it's very much under way. Very hard physical work but I'm a determined woman (with this particular goal). So I had to ask myself what's the difference.
With the vege garden it's something that's interesting, it's a spare time leisure activity. It makes me feel good when I can see immediately what I have achieved.
So how can I apply this to the other goals. The more difficult ones to achieve.
The key is, that I can see each part of the vege garden coming together, as soon as I pull one weed out I can see progress. I had in my mind the little components and tasks needed to be done in order. I needed to clear the space which required pulling out the old plants, weeds and shovelling out the river stones. Then I needed to rip out the weed mat. This is the stage that I'm at. I can see what the next task is, bring in more soil, compost and then the plants.
One other important part is that my unfinished garden is where I can see it, I'm reminded each day of what needs to be done because it's right there in plain view.
So... How do I apply this to my other goals. Firstly I need them to be in plan view. I need them written on the wall, bathroom mirror, basically in my face!
I need to break down my goals into achievable tasks which will help me see progress as I start to complete small chunks of a big goal.
I'm setting myself an assignment this week, to write some action plans for each goal and timetable the tasks into my diary.
I'll keep you posted on my progress.
